Free events in Tallinn — 11–14 September

A short week, your wallet intact, and enough excitement for all of September. We’ve put together the best free activities from Thursday to Sunday. Bring your friends, children, or parents along and let’s hit the town!

Main event: Heritage Days — 12–14 September

Three days of open houses, guided tours, and rare routes across Tallinn. Most programs are free, and advance registration is required for popular tours.

Route ideas:

  • Tour of Raekoda (Raekoja plats 1) — a rare opportunity to peek inside for free.
  • Walk in the cruise terminal and along the promenade — modern architecture + sea views.
  • Themed tours in the Old Town, historic quarters, and houses with stories to tell.

Easyfind's tip: plan early, as places fill up quickly. Check the schedule on the organizers' website and choose the starting points closest to you.

Kirjandustänava festival in Kadriorg — Sat, 13 September from 11:30

Open-air festival on Koidula tänav: conversations with authors, readings, music, a children's area, and workshops. Admission is free. An ideal way to combine books, a park, and coffee.

Tallinn Fringe: pay‑what‑you‑want (pay as much as you want)

Several performances and shows operate on a “pay what you want” basis. You can come without a ticket and support the artists with a donation when you leave.

Example: late-night Late Night Cabaret @ Heldeke! — Fri, 12 September, 23:00. A relaxed atmosphere, improvisation, and humor without formalities.

Pikk tänava festival — Sun, 14 September from 10:00

The Old Town comes alive with the community festival Pikk tänaval: open courtyards, mini-concerts, workshops, stories from locals, and surprises. Free and very photogenic.

Estonia’s biggest running weekend. Running requires a fee, cheering is free. Children’s races on Friday, the 10 km and half marathon on Saturday, and the marathon on Sunday.

Best places to watch:

  • The Old Town and promenades — beautiful views and plenty of runners.
  • Finish corridors — the greatest emotions and the best photos.

Mini-routes “at no cost”

Friday (12.09): evening walk in the Old Town → Fringe or a bar with free admission.
Saturday (13.09): daytime Literary Street Festival in Kadriorg → sunset by the sea → late-night Fringe show.
Sunday (14.09): cheer on the marathon runners → stop by the Pikk Street Festival → finish with a walk through the courtyards of Viru/Rotermann.

How to prepare so that everything goes smoothly

  • Registration. Book your spots on the Heritage Days tours early — popular times fill up quickly.
  • Plan B. There are lots of people: keep a couple of alternative spots nearby.
  • Transport. Traffic changes may occur due to the marathon — allow extra time.
  • Weather. September is unpredictable — a light jacket or blanket will save the evening.
